Welcome to FinTastik Tropical Fish
My name is Rick Mileski Sr., and tropical fish have been an important part of my life since the late 1960s. What started as an enjoyable hobby eventually became decades of hands-on experience keeping, breeding, raising, and selling many varieties of freshwater tropical fish.
Over the years, I have worked with discus, angelfish, plecos, German blue rams, guppies, black ghost knife fish, and many other aquarium species. Discus and angelfish have always been among my favorites, especially when it comes to breeding pairs and raising their young.
From Hobbyist to Tropical Fish Store Owner
My interest in fishkeeping eventually led me to own and operate the FinTastik Tropical Fish store in Antioch, California, for approximately 13 years. Running a tropical fish store gave me the opportunity to work with many different fish, aquarium products, and water-quality problems. It also allowed me to help customers solve everyday aquarium challenges.
I learned that successful fishkeeping does not have to be complicated. Most problems can be prevented by understanding the basics: choosing suitable fish, providing proper filtration, maintaining good water quality, feeding correctly, and avoiding sudden changes in the aquarium.
Practical Fishkeeping Advice
The information shared on this website is based on real experience gained from decades of keeping and breeding fish. My goal is to explain things in a friendly and practical way so that both beginners and experienced aquarium keepers can benefit.
I believe fishkeepers should understand their aquarium instead of constantly chasing perfect numbers. Stable water conditions, regular maintenance, responsible stocking, and careful observation are often more important than trying to reach one exact pH reading.
